Major General Jorg Vollmer

Born in 1957 in Hamburg, Maj. Gen. Jörg Vollmer began his military service in July 1978 in the Light Infantry Battalion 451 in Ahlen.


Between 1979 and 1982, he completed his degree in Economics and Organizational Science at the Bundeswehr University in Hamburg.


He served as a platoon leader with the 3rd coy of the Mechanized Infantry Battalion in Hamburg. In June 1986 he was promoted in Lübeck to company commander of the 2nd coy/Mechanized Infantry Battalion 172 and served after that as company commander of the 5th coy /Mechanized Infantry Demonstration Battalion 92 in Munster.


Thereafter he returned in 1991 to Hamburg and participated in the 34th Army General Staff Course at the Bundeswehr Command & Staff Collage. Following that he became a Desk Officer in the Joint Forces Staff Branch III 1 in Bonn, before he was promoted to Chief of Staff of the Armored Brigade 14. During this assignment he took part at IFOR and SFOR mission as the MA Depute Commander Logistics and Commander Support Command.


In June 1997 Major General Vollmer was promoted to Battalion Commander of Airborne Battalion 373 in Doberlug-Kirchhain. After this assignment he returned once more to Hamburg, this time as Head of Exercise & Training Center at the Bundeswehr Command & Staff Collage. From June 2001 to May 2002 General Vollmer participated at the Advanced Operational Art Studies Fellowship at the School of Advanced Military Studies in Fort Leavenworth/USA.


His next two assignments took him to Bonn, where hi was G3/G2 Division Chief at the Armed Forces Office and Chief of Army Staff Branch III 2.


After four years in Bonn, Major General Vollmer was promoted to Brigade Commander of the Mechanized Infantry Brigade 37 in Frankenberg/Saxony. During his time as a Brigade Commander, he was assigned COM RC North at ISAF from January 2009 till October 2009 in Mazar-e Sharif.    


In 2010 he became the Chief of Staff of the German-Netherlands Corps in Münster. After one year in this position he was promoted to Division Commander of the Specialized Operations Divisions and was once more assigned COM RC North in February 2013.
