KABUL, Afghanistan (Aug. 23) - An Afghan and coalition security force detained one suspected insurgent in Logar province last night while in pursuit of the Taliban deputy district commander for Pul-e 'Alam district.
The security force targeted a compound east of Shamokum in Pul-e 'Alam district to search for the commander. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully and then secured the area. After questioning all of the residents at the scene, the security force detained the suspected insurgent. The security force also found improvised explosive device (IED) material and ammunition at the scene.
"This commander belongs to a dangerous network directly connected to the Kabul Attack Network," said U.S. Army Col. Rafael Torres, International Security Assistance Force Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director. "Afghan and coalition forces have had great success targeting this network and we will continue until they are no longer a threat to the Afghan people."
The security force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children throughout the searches.
