KABUL, Afghanistan (Dec. 10) – The Afghan National Army’s 2nd Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 205th Corps and coalition forces provided medical and humanitarian assistance over a two-day period to villagers in Arghandab district, Zabul province recently.
Medical treatment was provided on the first day with support from an Afghan doctor from Arghandab, elements of the Afghan Army and U.S. Navy SEALs. The village medical outreach program treated more than 70 villagers from the surrounding area, providing aid for various ailments and injuries.
“The Afghan doctor treated numerous Afghans and took the lead on all medical activities during the [medical outreach],” said a SEAL team member. “He has recently arrived in the area to fulfill a one year contract to provide medical care and assistance to the people of the district.”
Elements of the Afghan and coalition forces focused on humanitarian assistance and meetings with tribal leaders and village elders on the second day.
Villagers received flour, sugar and oil from the combined force throughout the course of the day.
The meetings, between elements of the Afghan Army and village leadership, provided an opportunity for both sides to discuss relevant issues and challenges in the area. |
