Afghan forces kill two insurgents and detain eight

ZABUL PROVINCE, Afghanistan (Nov. 30, 2011) —  Afghan Local Police (ALP) along with Afghan National Police (ANP) and Afghan National Army (ANA) killed two insurgents and detained eight near Hengay village, Shah Joy district, Nov. 26.

            The ALP, ANP and ANA conducted a patrol with coalition Special Operations Forces to investigate the presence of insurgent activity near Hengay village.

            During the patrol, the combined forces heard sporadic gunfire from an unknown location and the Walan Rabat ALP immediately investigated. During the investigation, the ALP were involved in a gunfight, resulting in two insurgents killed. One of the killed insurgents was later positively identified as a Chineh insurgent who was responsible for the deaths of two ALP members in the Chineh area.

            Afterward, the ANP conducted a search of the surrounding buildings and identified eight military age males with weapons, ammunition, Improvised Explosive Device (IED) making material and a large book filled with detailed instructions and instructions for making IEDs. The men and equipment were taken into custody by Afghan forces.

           

            Soon after, the Walan Rabat ALP commander conducted a key leader engagement with local elders to discuss the operation, local security concerns and the detention of the eight individuals.

           The detainees are currently being held in a detention facility by the ANP.
