KABUL, Afghanistan (Aug. 28)
- Coalition medical personnel treated five Afghan civilians wounded by improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the Maiwand district of Kandahar province yesterday.

According to the U.S. Special Forces commander working in the area, three Afghan civilians were riding a tractor when they hit a pressure-plate IED.

In a separate incident, two other Afghans were driving through the same area when their vehicle struck a separate IED.

"The men were brought in for emergency medical treatment by ANP who reacted to the scene of both these incidents," said the USSF commander, whose team medic treated the five IED victims at a coalition forces base nearby.

"Insurgents don't even want citizens to move around in their own villages," said the USSF commander. "But thanks to the quick thinking and prompt actions of the ANP in Maiwand, the five citizens were able to reach medical care."
