KABUL, Afghanistan (Dec. 8)
– International Security Assistance Force Joint Command recently hosted a meeting with the commanding officers of Operations Coordination Center, Ghor province on Camp Whiskey Dec. 6 to discuss Afghan security force effectiveness.

“The main purpose of our visit was to assess and validate the operational effectiveness of Afghan security forces and provide recommendations for further improvement,” said U.S. Army Maj. Eric Nylander, team chief, Validation Transition Team - 207. “First impressions are that [Operations Coordination Center] is effective in meeting mission requirements as an operational and intelligence fusion center of Ghor province. Unity and motivation, timely analysis of intelligence and sharing information with the [Afghan National Police] units are the strongest points of this unit.”

The transition team supervised and assessed the coordination center’s activities. Five functional specialists evaluated different branches of the staff. The intelligence, logistics, personnel, communication, training and education sectors were monitored.

Recommendations from this assessment will be addressed to the Afghanistan Minister of Defence and the ISAF Joint Command.
