KABUL, Afghanistan (Sept. 21)
- An Afghan and coalition security force detained a Haqqani Network sub-commander and several additional suspects in Khost province Monday.

The sub-commander is directly linked to attacks during Saturday's elections as well as previous attacks during high profile events in Khost province that threaten the legitimately elected government as well as the local population.

Intelligence tips led the security force to a remote compound in Khost district to search for the commander. Afghan forces called for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully and then the combined force cleared the compound.

After the area was secure, the security force questioned the residents at the scene and detained the sub-commander, as well as three additional associates.

The assault force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children throughout the search.
