HERAT, Afghanistan (18 August) – Three groundbreaking ceremonies for three new schools to be built by the Italian Provincial Reconstruction Team were respectively held in the districts of Injil, Karokh e Shindand.

The number of schools constructed by Herat’s PRT from is constitution has reached 60, with over 80,000 pupils attending classes.

The projects will be implemented also thanks to the partnership with the US Forces in Afghanistan – that will contribute with funds totalling 450,000 Euros – and wih the Italian Agency for Cooperation and Development, which will provide the furniture and school items.

Herat’s Governor, Mr. Nooristani - who attended the groundbreaking ceremony in Shindand along with colonel Emmanuele Aresu, the PRT Commander - declared that “education is one of the top priorities for the Government and that the partnership with ISAF will allow benefits in this field, especially in the rural areas”.
