KABUL, Afghanistan (Dec. 7, 2012) - Gen. John Allen, commander of the NATO International Security Assistance Force, visited Asadullah Khalid in the military hospital at Bagram Airfield Friday, a day after the head of Afghanistan's National Directorate of Security was wounded in a failed assassination attempt.

Gen. Allen discussed Khalid's condition with his surgical and medical teams and spent a few minutes at the intelligence chief's bedside.

"Asadullah Khalid has led the National Directorate of Security with great courage and determination," said Gen. Allen following the visit. "I wish this lionhearted Afghan patriot a speedy recovery.  My prayers are with him and his family during this trying period."
