KABUL, Afghanistan (Jan. 7, 2011) – The International Security Assistance Force joins the President of Afghanistan and the Provincial Governor of Kandahar in condemning today’s insurgent attack in Kandahar Province. According to operational reports, a suicide bomber detonated his vest outside a bazaar near a fuel station in Spin Boldak district. One Afghan Border Patrolman and at least 12 Afghan civilians were killed in the attack, while three Afghan Border Patrolmen, one Afghan National Police Officer and 19 Afghan civilians were wounded.

“Our sincerest condolences go out to the family and friends of the murdered Afghan civilians and our partners in the Afghan National Security Forces,” said Rear Admiral Vic Beck, ISAF Director of Public Affairs. “In this heinous act, the insurgents once again show how little regard they have for the safety and sanctity of Afghan life.”

ISAF is working with Afghan authorities to bring the perpetrators of this attack to justice. There were no ISAF servicemembers involved in the incident.
