KABUL, Afghanistan (Feb. 10) – In Khost district, Khost province, an Afghan led and coalition supported security force captured a Haqqani Network leader during an operation today.

The leader operated a bomb-making cell in Mandozai district and planned attacks against coalition forces throughout the province.

During the operation, the security force seized multiple AK-47 assault rifles, shotguns, a chest rack, ammunition and bomb-making materials.

Several suspected insurgents were also detained for further questioning.

An Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban leader during an operation in Nad ‘Ali district, Helmand province, today. The leader used specialized weapons to conduct direct-fire and roadside bomb attacks against Afghan security forces throughout Marjeh district. One additional suspected insurgent was detained during the operation.

In Kajaki district, Helmand province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force discovered an explosives cache during a patrol yesterday. The cache consisted of approximately 1,280 pounds (582 kilograms) of explosive materials and approximately 370 improvised explosive device components. The security force destroyed all explosives and IED components on site without incident.

An Afghan led and coalition supported security force conducted a security operation in Maiwand district, Kandahar province, yesterday. During the operation, the security force seized several improvised explosive device components and a number of Afghan police uniforms. Several suspected insurgents were detained by Afghan security forces for further questioning. No civilians were harmed during the operation.

An Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation in search of a Taliban facilitator in Muqer district, Ghazni province, today. The facilitator distributes money, weapons and explosives to multiple insurgent networks. Two suspected insurgents were detained during the operation.

In Ghazni district, Ghazni province, an Afghan Provincial Response Company led and coalition supported security force conducted an operation in search of a Taliban leader Wednesday. The targeted leader is responsible for several attacks against Afghan and coalition forces throughout the province. During the operation, the security force seized multiple firearms and detained several suspected insurgents. The detainees were taken in by Afghan security forces for further questioning. The weapons were destroyed on site without incident. No civilians were harmed during this operation.
