KABUL, Afghanistan (Sept. 18) - Coalition forces conducted a precision air strike in Paktiya province today, targeting a Haqqani Network facilitator who was actively planning attacks during the Afghan parliamentary elections today.

Afghan and coalition security forces conducted 12 operations in seven Afghan provinces in the past week against insurgents actively planning to disrupt today's parliamentary elections. Afghan-led operations resulted with several insurgent leaders captured and three killed, all actively planning attacks against the elections.

Acting on intelligence tips, coalition forces tracked the facilitator from a compound to an open area in Sayyid Karam district. After careful planning to ensure no civilians were present, coalition aircraft conducted a precision air strike against him.

Although a ground force was unable to conduct an immediate assessment of the engagement area, the International Security Assistance Force will provide updates as they become available.
