KABUL, Afghanistan (Oct. 15)
- An Afghan National Security and International Security Assistance force patrol killed an insurgent and detained another during a routine interdiction operation in Shinkai district, Zabul province, Thursday.

During the roadblock operation, a group of males attempted to bypass the force and escalation of force steps were taken in an effort to halt the vehicle. As the vehicle was passing the security force, three armed males began to raise their weapons. Declaring hostile intent, the security force fired at the men as the vehicle passed by. The vehicle came to a stop a short time later and the occupants attempted to flee into the surrounding hillside.

The combined force pursued the men and located one wounded man shortly afterwards. The force immediately provided medical aid, but the man died of his wounds.

One man was detained during the operation.
