UPDATE: Afghan, Coalition Forces Confirm Leader's Capture

KABUL, Afghanistan (Dec. 8, 2010)
— The International Security Assistance Force confirmed the capture of a Haqqani leader in Khost province Dec. 7.

The targeted individual facilitated the movement of improvised explosive device materials and coordinates emplacement.

 The security force targeted a remote compound in Bak district to search for the Haqqani leader. Afghan forces called for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully before the joint security force cleared and secured the compound.

After initial questioning at the scene, the security force detained the targeted individual along with two of his associates. The security force also found multiple automatic weapons, linked ammunition and opium at the scene.

 The assault force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
