 KABUL, Afghanistan (Sept. 17) -
The International Security Assistance Force confirmed the capture of an Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan commander operating in Chahar Darah district.

The commander was well integrated with Taliban senior leadership in Kunduz and maintained contact with IMU leadership in Pakistan. The commander and one of his associates was captured during an Afghan and coalition force operation Wednesday.

Intelligence led Afghan and coalition forces to a compound in Kunduz City in search for the commander. Afghan and coalition forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully and then secured the area.

After initial questioning at the scene, the security force detained the commander and one of his associates.

The security force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
