 KABUL, Afghanistan (Dec. 12)
- The International Security Assistance Force confirmed the capture of a Gardez-based Taliban senior leader in Khost province Dec. 10.

The targeted individual coordinated attacks against Afghan National Army and Police and coalition forces using rockets, small arms and improvised explosive devices.

Based on intelligence reports, the security force targeted a remote compound in Musa Khel district to search for the senior leader. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully before the joint force cleared and secured the buildings. After initial questioning at the scene, the security force detained the senior leader along with eight of his associates.

The assault force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
