 KABUL, Afghanistan (Sept. 4) - The International Security Assistance Force confirmed the capture of the assessed Nawah-ye Barakzai (Helmand province)Taliban acting district commander during an Afghan and coalition force security operation in Kandahar City Thursday.

The targeted individual took the position after Afghan and coalition forces captured several members of this network starting this May.

The security force targeted a series of compounds in Kandahar City, to search for the commander. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully and then cleared the compounds. After questioning all the residents, the security force detained the commander and six of his associates.

The assault force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children throughout the search.
