KABUL, Afghanistan (Aug. 30) - Afghan National Security Forces and coalition forces uncovered and secured a large weapons cache in the Jalriz District, Maydan Wardak province today.

Acting on a tip from a local informant, the operation netted six 75 MM recoilless rifle rounds, eight fuses, two 60 MM mortar rounds, one 82 MM recoilless round, seven 85 MM recoilless rounds, 18 rocket-propelled grenade 9 rockets, and four RPG 7 rockets.

The cache was destroyed in place.

"We could not have done this without the help of the locals," said U.S. Army Col. Rafael Torres, International Assistance Force Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director. "Without their bravery in coming forward, these weapons would be pointed towards Afghan and coalition forces, as well as potentially hurting or killing innocent Afghan people."
