Brigadier General Eric Tremblay (CA)

Brigadier-General Eric Tremblay enrolled in the Canadian Forces   in 1980. After graduating from the Collège militaire royal (Saint- Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec) in 1985, he began his career with the 5e Régiment d'artillerie légère du Canada. During his first regimental tour, he served with V Battery as well as with Command and Services Battery and deployed to Norway and Cyprus.

In 1988, after a short posting to Germany where he served as a battery Second in Command in 4 Air Defence Regiment, he was named Aide de Camp to the Force Mobile Command (Army) Commander. He then proceeded on his Instructor in Gunnery Course and, in 1992, was posted to 5th Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group Headquarters serving as the G1 (personnel) and then as the G3 Instruction (operations).

In 1994, he was promoted to Major and appointed as Operations Officer for Canadian Forces Base Valcartier. A year later, he assumed command of X Battery of the 5e Régiment d'artillerie légère du Canada and deployed to the former-Yugoslavia as the Officer Commanding the Fire Support Coordination Centre.

After he returned from overseas in early 1997, he was posted to the Tactics School of the Combat Training Centre (in Gagetown, New Brunswick) as an Instructor In Gunnery and Tactics Instructor.

In 2001, newly graduated from the Canadian Forces Command and Staff Course, he returned to the Combat Training Centre to serve as Deputy Commanding Officer of the Artillery School. Upon promotion to Lieutenant-Colonel in 2002, he was posted to National Defence Headquarters (NDHQ) where he worked in the Vice Chief of Defence Staff Group as the Section Head responsible for Long Term Strategic Planning for the Canadian Forces.

In June 2003, he assumed command of the 5e Régiment d'artillerie légère du Canada and, during his first year as Commanding Officer (CO), deployed to Afghanistan (OPERATION ATHENA, ROTO 1) for six months as the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Kabul Multinational Brigade and Commanding Officer of the Brigade Troops.

In June 2005, he was posted to NDHQ as the Executive Assistant to the Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff. In January 2006, he was promoted Colonel and subsequently acted as Director of Current Operations at the Strategic Joint Staff. On March 30, 2007, Colonel Tremblay became the 23rd Commander of 5 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group.  

In January 2009 he was promoted to his current rank.  Brigadier-General Tremblay served at 1 US Corps as Deputy Commanding General until his deployment to Kabul as the ISAF Spokesperson in June 2009. Brigadier-General Tremblay completed a Masters in War Studies at the Royal Military College in Kingston.
