Mission
The Regional Command South Combined Team enables the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and Afghan National Security Forces as they conduct security operations and strengthen good governance to defeat the insurgency, retain and expand security in key terrain, ensure transition progress, and improve conditions for economic growth.
Area of Responsibility
RC-South includes the provinces of Kandahar, Uruzgan, Zabul and Daykundi.

Task Force Viper
Framework brigade – U.S. 504th Battlefied Surveillance Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas
Mission: TF Viper conducts counterinsurgency operations with embedded partners to secure and develop the Weesh-Chaman Border Crossing Point, enable Afghan National Security Forces to Secure Highway 4, and interdict insurgent networks in Area of Operation Texas, and support the development and legitimacy of GIRoA and Afghan institutions to achieve sustainable security and stability.
Combined Task Force Arrowhead
Framework brigade - U.S. 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Joint Base Lewis McChord, Wash.
Mission: CTF Arrowhead enables GIRoA and ANSF partners to conduct offensive security operations to strengthen governance, retain and expand security and defeat the insurgency. The commander of Arrowhead SBCT is Col. Chuck Webster, and Command Sgt. Maj. Samuel Murphy is the senior enlisted advisor. Follow 3-2 SBCT at:

Combined Task Force Fury
Framework brigade - U.S. 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina
Mission: CTF Fury enables Unified Command Teams Zharay and Maiwand to conduct security operations and strengthen governance capability to defeat the insurgency, retain and expand security in the key sub districts and set the conditions for GIRoA and ANSF dominance of the battle space. Combined Team Uruzgan
Framework task force - Australian Mentoring Task Force Number 4
Mission: Combined Team Uruzgan is a multi-national brigade-level headquarters responsible for mentoring ANSF within Uruzgan province. The CTU headquarters consists of staff officers and personnel from the United States, Australia, Singapore, and Slovakia who plan and coordinate population-centric counterinsurgency operations within Uruzgan.
Task Force Wings
Framework brigade - U.S. 25th Combat Aviation Brigade, Wheeler Army Airfield, Hawaii
Mission: TF Wings conducts full-spectrum operations in support of Regional Command South, U.S. Special Operation Forces and IJC to defeat the insurgency, support improved governance, development, and enables ANSF to secure the Afghan people, setting conditions for sustainable peace in RC-S, and provide MEDEVAC support to RC-S. Task Force Wings consists of the following subordinate battalions:

Kandahar Airfield
451st Air Expeditionary Wing
Mission: The 451st AEW provides a persistent and powerful airpower presence in the Afghanistan area of operations, to include tactical airlift, close air support, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, command and control, airborne datalink, combat search and rescue, casualty evacuation and aeromedical evacuation capabilities whenever and wherever needed. Kandahar Airfield and more than 600 sq km of the general defense area is under the tactical and operational control of the NATO/ISAF commander of Kandahar Airfield, known as COMKAF. COMKAF has three basic responsibilities and authorities: Base or “garrison” commander for all tenant units; Senior airfield authority; and the Force Protection Task Force commander. COMKAF maintains ultimate authority over the tenant units (more than 20,000 service members from 20 troop contributing nations) garrisoned and contract civilians (more than 11,000) and has the sole responsibility for their protection and security. COMKAF leads a multi-national force protection capability to secure the airfield and surrounding GDA. KAF is the busiest single runway operation in the world and NATO’s largest air base. It serves as a major logistics hub for the coalition, operations base for more than 395 aircraft and supports more than 24,000 aircraft movements per month. The GIRoA civilian Kandahar International Airport is located within the confines of KAF.
